We are a family intimately acquainted with some of the blessings and challenges of autism. Our eldest son received a diagnosis at the age of two and half.

Amid the overwhelming sea of information that floods a family facing a new diagnosis, we clung to those things that brought us hope, help, and strategies in coping with—and ultimately finding joy—in our new normal.

One such thing for us was music.  Music was a tool that enabled my son to tolerate getting dressed in the morning, getting buckled in his seat belt, getting his teeth brushed, diaper changed--nearly every challenge he faced seemed to be abated to some degree by listening to preferred music.

As a mother eager to jump on whatever lead I could to help my son, I researched music for children with special needs or autism hoping to find song topics specific to the challenges he faced.  But my search came up quite short.  So, I took on the task of writing the songs myself.

Influenced, inspired by, and often named by my son, these songs became a means of helping him accomplish whatever his present goal was: saying "hello," identifying and labeling emotions, focusing on items far away, and the mother of all our challenges: getting his haircut!  The songs evolved from impromptu little ditties, to bedtime requests, to a fully-produced album of 21 songs, each with developmental focuses tailored especially to young children with autism.

We are delighted now to be sharing our collection of songs, Songs for the Spectrum on all major platforms on April 2, 2024, Autism Awareness Day.
